In 2019, the Austrian Post issued the world’s first blockchain stamp. For the first time, a seemingly traditional product – the postage stamp – manages to harness the highly complex technology of the Blockchain. The Austrian Post has dragged stamp collecting into the new century and brought a genuine innovation to market in the form of the world’s first blockchain stamp: the Crypto stamp. This has made it possible to buy what has been a classic product until now using cryptocurrency for the first time. Check out our interview with the Austrian Post, an official sponsor at BLOCKCHANCE Europe 2021 below and learn more about Crypto stamp.
Which goals do you want to achieve with Crypto stamp?
People have been collecting stamps for more than a hundred years and at Crypto stamp by the Austrian Post we have brought this tradition into the 21st Century. By combining this proud tradition with NFTs, we aim to bridge a digital and real-world product, and bring real-world values into the NFT space. Through our Crypto stamps we have introduced many to the advantages of blockchain technology: collectors both young and old now own their first NFT, thanks to Crypto stamp.
How does blockchain technology help to achieve your goals?
Blockchain technology is essential to digitising stamp collecting for everyone. We want to make sure that philately continues to be attractive to the next generation. We considered making some form of digital stamps in the past, but it is difficult to create additional value just because the stamps are “digital.” Blockchain technology changed that, by bringing trust and scarcity to digital stamp collecting.
What makes Crypto stamp unique?
Unlike the metaverse we focus on combining the physical world and creating its digital twin. We create a traditional high-quality physical product and document its existence on the blockchain. Philately traditionally is a hobby for everybody. With Crypto stamp, we have created an NFT with real value, that is affordable and can attract curious customers, whether they already collect NFTs or not.
What will the world look like in ten years?
In 10 years, there will be a real VR metaverse, of course. But more important than the Metaverse, there will be tighter integration between real-world objects and the blockchain. For example, we believe there will be a fully transparent global logistics and supply chain network, where everyone can track parcels or other shipments in real-time. We are proud to be part of the early history of this phenomenon.
What motivates you to be a sponsor at BLOCKCHANCE Europe 2021?
We want to make our unique product better known to a more global audience, and we think BLOCKCHANCE is a perfect stage to do that. We are looking for great new ideas and inspiration at BLOCKCHANCE to keep us ahead of the innovation game.
By integrating real-world objects with blockchain technology the Austrian Post immensely contributes to a future of transparency and trust.
